«A tender bow» and a virtuosic right hand - Kim Gyehee at the Platonov Arts Festival

The closing event of the festival’s academic music programme was a concert by Kim Gyehee with the Voronezh Academic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the National Artist of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Verbitsky.
‘A distinctive feature of the violinist is her «tender bow» a truly virtuoso right hand that allows her to elegantly bring out the most complex four-voice chords without the slightest loss of tempo’, — write about Gyehee Kim. She made history as the first representative of the Republic of Korea to win in the instrumentalist category at the 17th International Tchaikovsky Competition. Kim was the first Asian to win the top prize among violinists at the International George Enescu Competition. She also won the Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition and the Munetsugu Angel Violin Competition. She was loaned an Antonio Stradivari violin from 1697, named «Rainville», for three years.

At the Platonov Arts Festival Kim Gyehee performed the Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 by Jean Sibelius and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony in A major.

‘The citizens of Voronezh are very hospitable, it’s so nice that the audience didn’t want to let me go! Here in Russia the audience is very attentive and appreciative. When you play on stage as a musician, giving your heart, you receive such a response that makes you play even more and better,’ Kim shared her emotions after the concert.
