A concert by the celebrated violinist Vadim Repin and the P. I. Tchaikovsky Academic Grand Symphony Orchestra took place at the Platonov Arts Festival.
One of Russia’s most renowned contemporary musicians, Vadim Repin performed with the famed ensemble under the baton of the orchestra’s chief conductor, Arsentiy Tkachenko. The evening’s program featured works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Sergei Prokofiev — composers whose music became a central part of the artistic legacy of the 20th century.
The concert combined the power of a large symphonic sound with the expressiveness of solo performance. The music of Shostakovich and Prokofiev, full of drama, inner tension, lyricism, and energy, sounded especially vivid in Voronezh. In the performances by Vadim Repin and the orchestra, these works unfolded as a profound conversation about time, humanity, strength of spirit, and beauty.
Vadim Repin: «The Voronezh audience is wonderful. You could feel their attention and engagement. That gave special inspiration.»
P. I. Tchaikovsky Academic Grand Symphony Orchestra is one of the country’s leading symphonic ensembles, known for its vast sound, high level of performance, and devotion to the Russian musical tradition.
Arsentiy Tkachenko: «I treat classical music like the Bible. For me it is something very pure, sacred. I try to preserve it, to preserve the traditions embedded in it. As for the orchestra — I try to cherish what many conductors have created: the unique sound and traditions. We try to preserve them, not to perfect or modernize them.»
Inspired by the concert, our photographer captured remarkable shots using a complex analog technique, without any AI. These images make the music tangible. Here it does not simply sound — it moves: it spirals, hovers above the stage, scatters in light, gathers into a powerful impulse and flies into the auditorium. See what happens when music meets photography.
