The autumn programme of the XII International Platonov Arts Festival will be held from September 2nd to October 2nd. It includes dramatic and choreographic performances, as well as concerts of virtuoso musicians from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia and Serbia.
Among the participants of the theatre programme are well-known theatres from Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as a team from Armenia. On September 3rd and 4th, the Voronezh Concert Hall will host showings of the performance "My Soul Pavel" by the Russian Academic Youth Theatre, staged by the artistic director of the theatre Alexei Borodin based on the play by Polina Babushkina based on the novel by Alexey Varlamov. In the centre of the plot is the story of a newly minted student of the philological faculty of Moscow State University, who goes "to cultivate the potato field", where he will have to go through a kind of initiation: to defend his convictions or say goodbye to his dreams forever. The performance "My Soul Pavel" became the winner of the "Hit of the Season" Award (2023) by the Union of Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation and the Theatre Award "MK" in the nomination "Best Large Form Performance” (2022).
On September 9th and 10th, on the stage of the Voronezh Concert Hall, "Pyotr Fomenko Workshop Theatre" from Moscow will show a performance "Doctor Zhivago" by the artistic director of the theatre Yevgeni Kamenkovich. The director re-edited Boris Pasternak's text, mixing history with poetry, and defined the genre of the production as " "playing people" based on the novel of the same name in 3 parts, consisting of prose, poetry and all sorts of things, prompted by the awareness that half of the people have ceased to be themselves and are playing nobody knows what".
On September 15th and 16th, the viewers will see "Bloom. Tea or coffee? Autodance" – works by outstanding modern choreographers Maxim Sevagin, Andrey Kaidanovsky and Sharon Eyal, staged at different times at the Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre (MAMT) and collected in the programme of a singular evening. The showings will take place on the stage of the Opera and Ballet Theatre. The last time MAMT was on tour in Voronezh was in 2011, at the first Platonov Arts Festival.
On September 16th and 17th, the Voronezh Concert Hall will host showings of the rescheduled performance "Weapon of Hearts", staged at the St. Petersburg Youth Theatre on the Fontanka by Yuri Tsurkanu based on the screenplay by Andrey Platonov "The Ivanov Family".
The theatre programme will be completed by the performance "... and again Spring", staged by Narine Grigoryan based on the stories of O. Henry at the Nationwide Theatre "Hamazgain" named after Sos Sargsyan (Armenia). The director combines simply and humorously written stories about love, devotion and self-sacrifice, in which the characters perform heroic deeds, forgive and dream. The performance will be shown in Russia for the first time. The time and place of the showings will be announced later, until July 5th.
The music programme of the festival includes solo, chamber and symphony concerts by artists from Azerbaijan, Serbia and Russia. The first event of the programme will be the concert of Serbian artists. Cellist Nemanja Stankovic and pianist Maja Mihic will perform works by Russian and Serbian composers. The concert will take place on September 2nd. Connoisseurs of academic music will also enjoy the performance of two well-known chamber ensembles. On September 17th, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra "Musica Viva" will perform works by Arcangelo Corelli, Francesco Geminiani, Paul Hindemith and Benjamin Britten, and on October 2nd, a concert of the ensemble of soloists of the Russian National Orchestra "Camerata RNO" will be held. The Russian National Orchestra is a community of brilliant musicians, many of whom combine the main work in the orchestra with solo, ensemble and pedagogical activities. An important feature of the collective is the performance of even significant pieces of composition without the participation of a conductor. On September 29th, a pianist Daniel Kharitonov, the winner of the Grand Prix of the Vladimir Krainev Moscow International Piano Competition and bronze medalist of the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition, will perform accompanied by the Voronezh Academic Symphony Orchestra. Conductor - Igor Verbitsky. Elvin Hoxha Ganiyev (violin, Azerbaijan) and Daniel Kharitonov will give a concert on September 30th.
