Alexander Deineka is commonly believed the creator of socialist realism, but significant impression on artist’s works made study years at polygraphic faculty of Moscow VKhUTEMAS (Higher Art and Technical Studios), which teaching personnel included representatives of Russian avant-garde. In the exhibition you will see one of the earliest works of Deineka – “Portrait of the Artist K.A. Vyalov”, in which influence of avant-garde movements is clearly seen.

In 1924 Deineka was fully engaged in creation of “Society of Stankovists” (OST). At this time master’s own style started forming, based on graphic manner, reserve of colour solutions, preciseness of compositional forming.

In 1923-1932 Alexander Deineka cooperated with such magazines as “The Godless at the Workplace” (“Bezbozhnik u stanka”), “At the Workplace” (“U stanka”), “Projector” (“Prozhektor”), “Red Niva” (“Krasnaya Niva”), “Let there be” (“Dayosh”). Artist himself thought of this period as a fundamental one in his career.

Deineka created a series of beautiful posters, which laconic and “rough” language was kept with the times; some of these works will be shown in Voronezh. Exhibition visitors will have an opportunity to see a series of urban landscapes and portraits, made by Deineka after his trip to the USA, France and Italy, for example, “The street in Rome” and “The Italian motif”. A famous painting “Outskirts of Moscow. November 1941” – a work of war period – will also be in Voronezh.

In 30-s Deineka created a series of works, devoted to aviation. One of the most romantic and famous is “Future pilots” (1938). It is one of the best paintings of socialist realism. Works of Alexander Deineka have got a significant influence not only in Russian, but also in the world culture. In Soviet times works of this artist were exhibited in the Venice Biennale. In 2010 artist’s major solo exhibition took place in the Tretyakov Gallery and in 2011 it took place in the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome (Italy). Exhibition at the Platonov Arts Festival is also one of the biggest Deineka’s solo exhibitions.
