An evening of modern choreography, consisting of one-act ballets by Sofia Gaidukova and Konstantin Matulevsky, appeared as part of the "RE: Dance Form – 2019" festival and subsequently entered the Long List of the "Golden Mask" award - a list of the most notable performances of the past theatrical season.

Sofia Gaidukova and Konstantin Matulevsky are a creative duet, well-known in theatrical Russia, nominees for the "Golden Mask". Today they are one of those who determine the development trends of modern ballet in our country.

The work of Konstantin Matulevsky is the ballet "Aheym" (music: Bryce Dessner & Kronos Quartet), Sofia Gaidukova staged "Harlequinade. New" to the music of Alexei Aigui, and together they reflected on the archetype of a woman in the play "Anima" to the music of Philip Glass.

"Matulevsky at Aheym has produced such good neoclassicism, which has not been seen for a long time in any of the workshops of young choreographers. Solid work, where not only the lighting solution is well thought out, but also the composition.

Duets flow into trios and mass works, not for a second bothering the viewer with semantic failures."

"Sophia Gaidukova, despite her high-quality ballet past, often deliberately leaves her ballet vocabulary, preferring to tell stories using a different language. Her "Harlequinade. New "showed us two completely different couples in terms of the nature of the relationship ... The audience is delighted, and again it is amazing how you can think of a good and high-quality story, using a minimum on stage and using only two couples."

"The finale of the evening is the ballet Anima. The choreographers presented a fantastic situation: what would happen if women breathed life into men. To the music of Philip Glass, they reflect on the archetype of a woman.

The works of Konstantin Matulevsky and Sofia Gaidukova are a kind of modern interpretation of the classics. There are classical elements in their performances, but their presentation changes, elements related to modern dance appear. And this synthesis determines their language."
