Vladimir Academic Drama Theatre
Adapted and directed by Vladimir Kuznetsov
Based on the works of Vladimir Soloukhin.
A play about a search for light and spiritual enlightenment. The production is dedicated to the centenary of the outstanding Russian writer Vladimir Soloukhin.
Once, the author witnessed the restoration of an icon, as artists, removing layers of darkened varnish from the ancient surface, revealed the ancient painting beneath.
Struck by this observation, Soloukhin began to examine his own life, attempting a kind of «restoration of his own soul," searching within himself for that hidden light which is the discovery of faith.
The play is based on works from different years, poems, and autobiographical essays, but the main narrative is founded on the stories «Serafima," «Varvara Ivanovna," and «The Girl at the Water’s Edge.»
